Hardware Questions and Answers - DVD burner not recognized

Mitch writes in with a hardware question:
Q. I recently installed a dvd burner, but for some reason I cant make it work as a dvd burner, it just shows up as a cd drive. Im pretty sure Ive installed all the software for it. any suggestions?

A. You may first want to check if your drive has CD burning enabled. Are you burning using Windows XPs built in burning capabilities or other third party software?
