Networking Questions and Answers - Looking for Wireless Router for Xbox

Ben writes in with a networking question.
Q. I have a USB connected modem for my ADSL internet connection and I wish to buy a wireless router so I can play my Xbox online. Is there a certain router I should buy?

A. If your modem also has an Ethernet network port on it then you might be better off switching to Ethernet instead of USB. Your computer most likely has a Ethernet port in it. That way you can get just about any wireless router and connect your computer through the Ethernet port and then your Xbox wirelessly. It appears that the Xbox uses a G wireless adapter which is the current standard with modern wireless routers.

I have not seen any routers that have USB connections to connect to your computer or modem but only to add printers to act as a print server. As for router brands we have had good luck with Linksys, Netgear and Belkin routers. You can spend about $60 and get what you need. Some have better range than others but if your router and Xbox will be close to each other then any router should work.

Then you would connect your modem to the router via network cable and the router to your computer via network cable.
