Networking Questions and Answers - Workstation Won't Join Domain

Abhay writes in with a networking question

Question:
My machine will not join the domain. I can ping the server from my machine though.

Answer: In order for your computer to be able to join a domain you should check a few things first. Make sure your computer is on the same subnet as the domain controller. Check the IP addresses of both to make sure. If you are using DHCP make sure that your DHCP server is using the right address range. Next make sure your computers DNS settings are pointing to the IP address of your domain controller. If you are able to contact the domain controller when you try and join it then be sure to enter credentials of an account that has the appropriate rights to be able to add a computer to the domain.
