Harry Potter virus warning
Security companies are warning about an e-mail promising a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book, which comes out July 21st. Users who click on the attached file will be infected by the W32/Hairy-A worm virus which can automatically infect a PC when users plug in USB drives. The virus is disguised as a document called HarryPotter-TheDeathlyHallows.doc.
Every time infected users open Internet Explorer they will find their start page has been redirected to an Amazon.com web page selling a spoof book entitled Harry Putter and the Chamber of Cheesecakes. They will also find new users added to their computer using the names of characters from the Harry Potter series. |
Windows Vista Sync Center Overview
If you use or store the same files on different computers and devices then it is important that you be able to synchronize them between the devices so that you always have the most current up to date copy available to you. You don’t want to be out in the field and open a document to find out that it is not updated with the most recent changes.
If you are a Windows Vista user then you can take advantage of the Vista Sync Center which allows you to synchronize your files between your devices in one interface. Sync Center is used to synchronize your computer with network folders, mobile devices, and compatible programs. Sync Center can automatically keep your files and folders in sync in different locations. To open Sync Center, click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, and then click Sync Center.
Synchronizing can be done one way or two ways. In one-way sync, every time you add, change, or delete a file or other information in one location, the same information is added, changed, or deleted in the other location. But no changes are ever made to the first location because the sync is only one way. In a two-way sync, files are copied in both directions, keeping files in sync in two locations. Every time you add, change, or delete a file in either location, the same change is made in the other sync location.
To setup Sync Center just tell it what files and folders you want to sync, where to sync them, and when. Every time you sync files between two locations, Sync Center compares the files in both locations to see if they match or have changed. It determines if any files need to be updated in order to stay in sync. It then determines which version of each file to keep and copies that version to the other location, overwriting the other version there. It selects the most recent version to keep, unless you have set up the sync partnership to sync differently. If a file has changed in both locations since the last sync, Sync Center flags this as a sync conflict and asks you to choose which version to keep.
You can sync many different types of mobile devices using Sync Center including MP3 players, portable video players, cell phones, PDAs and other types of handheld devices. The manufacturer must support Sync Center for sync to work.

New computer configuration question
Bharat writes in with a hardware question
Q.Dear Sir, I want to buy a PC, I have made this configuration... just need a sugestation. Does it ok or should i change something? The processor is an Intel (P4) 2.4ghz or 3.0 ghz Intel (P4). Or a 3.0 DUAL CORE. Are they ATX compatible with this configuration? The monitor is a LG or Samsung 17" ( Black). The memory (RAM) is 2 GB DDR. The hard drive is a 200 GB SATA.
A. The Pentium 4 is going to be on its way out pretty soon. The Core 2 Duo is the newer Intel processor that runs faster and uses less power than the Pentium 4. You cant go by the GHz of the processor when comparing the two. For example a 2.8 Pentium 4 is going to be slower than a 2.0 Core 2 Duo. If you can I would go for a E6400 Core 2 Duo and up processor depending on your budget.
As for RAM I would get 1 GB minimum for Vista and 512 MB minimum for XP. 2 GB would be a good choice for Vista.
If 200 GB is enough storage space for you then that sounds good. You can see what you are using now for disk space and make the decision. SATA drives are faster than the older IDE drives.
I have had a couple of Samsung monitors and have one now and like the quality. I hear LG monitors are pretty good too. I would go for a monitor with VGA and DVI connections and make sure your video card on the computer has the same connections. DVI will give a clearer picture with an LCD monitor.
