Microsoft Office Questions and Answers - Office Help Asks About Opening XML File

Jay writes in with an Office question
Question:When clicking on help in Word, Excel, etc. it defaults to looking on the computer and asks about opening an XML file such as browseo.excel.xml. How do I get the default search to change to Office Online?

Answer: It may be that your computer doesn't know what program to open .xml files with and is asking you what to use. The file extension tells Windows what program is used to open what type of file. In your case the file extension is .xml (Extensible Markup Language). Newer versions of Office use xml for their help files so if you computer doesn't know how to open an xml file then it will ask you what to do. I would change your file association so that .xml files open with Internet Explorer.
