Question: I disassembled my computer and I reassembled it again and it could no longer log on after I booted. It kept on saying DMI pool data and it doesn’t even log on to Windows. I am also trying to configure my hard drive as a master and a DVD ROM as slave. How do I set my jumper setting as master/slave on an IDE drive?
Answer: I would first look in the BIOS to make sure your hard drive is recognized. If it's not, then it could be a jumper or cable issue. For setting the jumper there should be a diagram on the drive itself showing which pins to put the jumper on to make it master or slave. Just make sure that you don’t make your hard drive and DVD drive both master or both slave if they are on the same IDE port with the same cable. Also check your ribbon cable to make sure it's connected the right way on the drive and motherboard. Most are keyed so you can only put them on one way but sometimes it's possible to put it on backwards. Look for the red stripe on one end of the cable and that should match up with pin number 1 on the motherboard where it plugs in. Also make sure your power cable is securely connected.
