Diskette drive 0 seek failure Message During Windows Installation
Debbie writes in with a hardware question
Question: I inherited a Dell computer where the previous owner cleared the hard drive. I have the operating discs but can't seem to install them even after inserting them in both drives. The error message is "Diskette drive 0 seek failure". What is the problem and solution?
Answer: It sounds like the computer is trying to read from the floppy drive to boot the computer. If you have a floppy drive then the error can be caused by no disk in the drive or the drive not being connected or working properly. If there is no floppy drive then the BIOS could be set to search for a floppy drive on boot up. I would go into the BIOS and find the boot menu and set it to the CDROM for the first boot device so that it will read the CD and load the Windows setup files allowing you to install Windows.
