Beeping Noise From PC Speakers - PC Hardware Questions & Answers

Gary writes in with a hardware question

Question:
I get an annoying bleeping noise from my speakers now and then. It sounds like something sent and not static or anything like that.

Answer: I would start by changing the speakers as a test or using some Walkman type headphones that use the same type of jack to eliminate the speakers. If it is still there then you may have an issue with your sound card. If its an onboard sound card then there isn't much you can do except get a PCI sound card and use that instead. They are fairly cheap and easy to install. If you have a PCI sound card already you can try a different PCI slot or try replacing it as well. You should also make sure you are using a good surge suppressor with a good ground to make sure there is no dirty current flowing into your computer.
