PC Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - Can't Open Hard Drive When Double Clicked - maskrider2001.vbs error

Sampad writes in with a troubleshooting question

Question:
My physical hard drives don’t open when double clicked. On the D drive it shows an error message "cannot find script file D:\maskrider2001.vbs".

Answer: I would start by looking at your startup items for anything related to maskrider2001.vbs and uncheck the box next to it. This should prevent it from running after you reboot so you can remove it.

You can also look in the registry for the following key and delete maskrider2001.vbs within the key.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\maskrider2001.vbs

After you prevent it from starting with your computer then do a search of your hard drive for maskrider2001.vbs and delete it. Make sure your computer is set to show hidden files too. If you cant get it to stop running at startup then you may be able to boot into Safe Mode and delete it that way.

Kaspersky Antivirus is also known to get rid of this virus. You can try the free trial if the above steps do not work.
