PC Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - The Procedure Entry Point GetProcessImageFileNameW Could Not Be Located in the Dynamic Link Library PSAPI.DLL Message

Joseph writes in with a troubleshooting question

Question:
I purchased and downloaded RegCure to fix an Explorer problem, it didn't work. I feel ripped off. My PC keeps popping up a Exployer.EXE window that says "The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL”. What can I do to fix this problem?

Answer: This error can be caused by having multiple versions of the psapi.dll file on your computer. There should only be one in the Windows\System32 folder. Try these steps to rename any other instances of the psapi.dll file on your computer.

1. Open up Search from Start Menu.
2. Search for PSAPI.DLL on your PC.
3. Rename all extra versions of PSAPI.DLL files found except the one located in \Windows\System32\ folder to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL
4. Restart your computer.

You may also want to run the Windows System File Checker to make sure you have the correct version of psapi.dll in your system32 folder.
