PC Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - How to Analyze PC Beep Code on Startup

Veron writes in with a troubleshooting question

Question:
How do you fix a problem on a computer when it beeps five times?

Answer: When your computer beeps like that it's usually a code telling you what the problem is. Then you can look up the beep code and try and diagnose the problem that way. The problem is that if you don't know who makes the BIOS of your computer then it may be hard to find the right cause of the beep code. You can look at various codes from different BIOS manufactures to try and narrow it down. Or if your computer starts enough to show you the POST screen where you can press the certain key needed to get into the BIOS then you should be able to find out who makes it. Many times it will show on the screen as one of the first items during startup.
