PC Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - Can't find C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DegCs.exe Error

Cezar writes in with a troubleshooting question

Question:
It started with my startup displaying "cant find C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\DegCs.exe". After some time my pc displayed the blue screen. After which, programs don’t load as usual after clicking on them. I already tried restarting and going to safe mode to no avail. Please help. Thanks very much in advance!

Answer: DegCs.exe is a know malware/spyware file that can perform actions such as Disabling the normal operation of the Windows Security Center, visiting web sites on your computer without you knowing and setting processes to start during logon.

I would begin by using msconifg to check your startup items to see if there is anything listed there with DegCs.exe in the name or path and then uncheck it if there is. You can also uncheck anything else that looks suspicious. Then you can use Task Manager to see if there is a DegCs.exe process running and kill that as well.

Then I would boot into Safe Mode and perform some spyware scans using such programs as SpyBot, AdAware, Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials.
