PC Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - Error Loading NVCP.DLL Message

Kim writes in with a troubleshooting question
Question:I'm getting an error message when I start my computer. It says Error Loading NVCP.DLL, the process cannot be access the file because it is being used by another process. I have been trying to download Yahoo Messenger and cannot get a successful download. Would this error message have anything to do with it? The icon is on my screensaver and it will not run the program - says that there is a problem with C:\Programs\Yahoo\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe.

Answer: It sounds as though your computer is having an issue loading some software related to your video card. There are a couple of things you can try to fix this. First you can download and install a new video card driver. To find the make and model of your video card you can go into Device Manager and look under Display Adapters.

Many Nvidia cards load the Nvidia Control Panel at startup and you really don't need to have this load when your computer starts. You can use msconfig to check your startup items and disable the Nvidia software from loading when your computer boots.
