Belarc Advisor

It's nice to be able to know all the details about your computer's configuration. If you didn't build it yourself then you may not know all of your computer's specifications. There is a free software utility you can use called Belarc Advisor that will help you find out almost anything you would ever want to know about your computer.

Belarc Advisor is a utility that is used to create a detailed profile of your computer's software, hardware, network configuration, software licenses, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status and other data, and displays the results in an easy to read web browser page.

After you double click the downloaded installation file you will get a couple of messages. One just tells you that the program will be run with full administrator privileges so it can get all the information it needs from your computer. The second message asks you if you want to check for new advisor security definitions that will be run against what is installed on your computer. You should say yes to this message.

One of the most useful features is the Microsoft Hotfixes section where it shows what patches are installed on your computer and what patches your computer is missing. There are also clickable links by the patches that you can use to take you to the Microsoft website to show you details about the particular patch.
