Software Questions and Answers - Outlook Express and MS Works Problems
Matt writes in with a software question.
Question: have recently "slaved" my old hard-drive so that I could use a larger one that could handle XP. My Outlook Express account won't transfer easily, so I tried to set it up anew, since XP seemed ready for a new outlook express set-up. I entered the wrong server, however, and can't even find a way to return to that window to simply correct a mistake. Also, none of my documents, written in MS Works will translate over to Office Word. I'm pulling my hair out. Please tell me there's something I can do, without having to disconnect for the fifth time this week and haul it to the computer guy!!!
Answer: To import your Outlook Express emails into another copy of OE you need to do a few steps. It is not too difficult though. Check out this question from a visitor who had a similar question for the steps.
To change the server information all you need to do is open Outlook Express and click on Tools then Accounts and click the Mail tab. From here select the account you setup and select Properties and go to the Server tab. If you want to start over you can simply delete the account and make a new one.
There are only certain versions of Works documents that can be imported into Word. If you are using Word 2003 then it will only import Works 6.0 and 7.0 documents.
If you still have the Works program you can install it again and then open your documents in Works and save them as a different format that will work better with Word such as an rtf file.
