Cannot Access Secure Banking Website
Mike writes in with a software question
Question: I have encountered a problem when I try to access a website for a credit union, it will not allow it to open and this is the only website I am having trouble with. Every other site in my favorites works fine, can you help me? I contacted the bank and they claim that their system is fine and it must be with my computer.
Answer: Since you are trying the bank site from your favorites I would first make sure address in your favorite is still valid. Try to manually type in the URL of the site into the address bar and see if you can get in that way. If so then you can make a new favorite or update your current one.
Your computer may be having a problem with secure websites or just this secure website. As a first test I would try to open the website in a different web browser. If you use IE then you can try Firefox which is a better browser and performs better than IE.
Depending on what the error you are getting trying to access the bank site is you can try to adjust your security settings until you can get in and make sure its not a restricted site in your browser under the Privacy tab in Internet Options and then the Sites button.
You may also want to run some spyware scans to see if something is blocking your access.
