Kathy writes in with a software question:
Q. Hello, I restored my computer about 2 weeks ago. It is a gateway, 8 years old. Before the restore I had Playtech software installed. Playtech powers some online casinos. I had three different casinos that I used installed all powered by playtech software. They all work fine except for one thing, you can go to menu, audio settings, click on the volume slider bar take it over to the"+", click out of it and go back in and it is back to "-". It will not stay on. There is another slider bar for the speed, it works fine, but the audio slider bar will not work. It is like this in three different casinos. I have installed, reinstalled all three of them several times, they still do the same thing. What can I do to fix this, is there some kind of driver I need to download? Do I have some kind of file missing for this operation? I have been searching for an answer for 2 weeks now. I contacted the casinos to see if they were having a problem, they said no!
on there end, that no one else has complained about this problem. I am at a loss. Like I said they worked fine before the restore. A casino is not that much fun without sound. I would appreciate any help with this problem.
Thanks
A. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Playtech software so it will be tough to help. It could be a case where the installation had a problem, then you uninstalled it but it kept some settings/entries in the registry and kept the settings when you reinstalled. You may want to try uninstalling it again and using a registry cleaner to try and take out any leftover entries. One free program that seems to work well is called CCleaner. It can be downloaded at http://www.ccleaner.com/. Then you can reinstall again.
Another thing to consider is if these games are web based and use your web browser, Java or Macromedia Flash. Have you done all of your Windows updates since you re-did your computer? You can also make sure you have the Java and Flash updates just to be sure.
