Removing the SpyAxe Infection - Spyware Help

There are many types of spyware or malware infections that you can get on your computer and there are several ways to get them as well. One of the more annoying types of these infections is called scareware. Scareware is when you get a fake antivirus or antispyware program installed on your computer by some method like visiting an inappropriate website or installing some free program downloaded from the Internet. These scareware programs try to scare you into buying the full versions of the program to clean up the bogus virus or spyware infections it says it found on your computer.

SpyAxe is an anti-spyware program that will display fake warnings on your computer in order to trick you into buying the full commercial version of the product.

If you have SpyAxe on your computer you may have had your desktop wallpaper turn blue with a black rectangle in the center with a message "SPYWARE INFECTION, Your system is infected with spyware" or something similar.

There are several things you can do to get rid of this annoying program. First you can try to uninstall it. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel and then Add or Remove Programs. Uninstall SpyAxe if it appears in the list of programs. You should also uninstall Quick Links if it appears in the list as well. Then look for a folder called SpyAxe under C:\Program Files\SpyAxe\ and delete it if it exists.

There is a tool called SmitRem that will also remove the infection. Click here to download SmitRem. After downloading it you need to run it in Safe Mode. After removing SpyAxe, run the wallpaper enable registry edit to enable you to restore your desktop background. Download the file here and then double click it and click on yes when it asks you if you want to import it into the registry.
