Troubleshooting Questions and Answers - Cannot Change Display Settings

Ronnie writes in with a troubleshooting question
Q: when I go to display settings in control panel it does not allow me to change the desktop, it will not even highlight. Also when my pc boots up, it has a pic of some actress off of the Disney channel...any help?

A: Do you know off hand if you have administrator rights on the computer? If not then that would explain why it won’t let you change the settings. Go to Start, then Control panel or Start, Settings, Control panel then click on Users. Check your user name and see what kind of access you have. If you don't have admin access check and see if there is an administrator account that you can log in with and give your normal account admin access with since you most likely won’t be able to give yourself admin access if you don't have it.

If you don't have any kids that could have put the Disney background on your computer then it may be a spyware issue. I have not heard of a case where it puts a Disney background on a computer though. Make sure you check for spyware on a regular basis anyway.
