Microsoft has been making some reasonably good efforts to help protect against virus and spyware infections on Windows based computers since they are the company that makes the Windows operating system. Although there are other software companies that make better products, using the free tools from Microsoft can be a helpful addition to your other security software.
Windows OneCare safety scanner is a free service designed to help ensure the health of your PC. All you need to do is download and install the software and run the scanner. It will scan your computer for viruses and adware, clean up unneeded files on your hard drive, check your disk to see if it needs to be defragmented and check your internet connection for open ports that may be a vulnerability.
