In today’s computer age, burning CDs has become a way of life. Whether it’s for backup or making music CDs, it has become a common computer task. Microsoft realized this when they came out with Windows XP. Other companies such as Roxio and Nero were dominating the market with their CD burning software so Microsoft did what they do best and implemented it into Windows.
To burn a CD in Windows do the following:
1. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer
2. Browse to the files you want to burn to the CD
3. Highlight the files
4. Drag them to your CD burner drive
Windows will make a temporary copy of the files and inform you that you have files ready to burn to CD. You can click the balloon and then click on Write these files to CD or go to the File menu and choose the same. If you choose not to burn these files you can delete them from this box without deleting your originals. Just be careful that you are deleting them off the CD drive and not your hard drive!
Next it will ask you to name your CD or you can leave the default date title as is.

Click on Next and the burning process will begin. You will get a dialog box telling you that the CD burning is complete if all goes well.
If you can’t drag your files to your CD drive for burning you should check to make sure that the Enable CD recording on this drive option is checked for your drive. Right click the drive and select Properties. From there you would click on the Recording tab and check the box that says Enable CD recording on this drive.
