Enabling File and Printer Sharing for Windows 95, 98 & ME - Microsoft Windows Tips

File and printer sharing is a feature that many people are starting to use more often because of all the benefits you get from sharing your files and printers. For example if you want to have a central location where other people on your network can access your files then that's where file sharing comes into play. Or if you have one printer that you want to be able to share with other users on your network so they can print to it as well, then it's possible to do this with printer sharing.

Unlike Windows XP, older versions of Windows may not have file an print sharing enabled out of the box. If this is not enabled then you will not be able to share folders and printers on your network. To enable file and print sharing do the following:

Click on Start , Settings and then Control Panel.

Double click the Network icon. You will see the following dialog box.

Click on the File and Printer Sharing button.

Check the boxes that you wish to enable.

Click Ok and then Ok again. You may have to put your Windows CD in the drive so Windows can copy the needed files.

Restart the computer when finished if prompted to do so.
