Windows Questions and Answers - Low Screen Resolution After Windows Installation

Sallie writes in with a Windows question.
Question:
I reinstalled windows98 with CDROM support, and now I can't change my display setting no higher than 16 bits. What could be my problem? Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Answer: If you did a reinstall of Windows 98 it most likely does not have a built in driver for your video card so it reverts to a basic VGA driver. I would find the make and model of your video card and go to the manufacturer’s website and download a new driver. Just make sure to download the Windows 98 version.

Or if you have the CD that came with your computer or video card you may be able to find the driver there but you can get the most current driver from the website.

If you don't know the make and model you may have to take the cover off the computer and see if it is listed on the video card itself. Whenever you do a reinstall of Windows you should always go into Device Manager first to print out your hardware so you know what you have in your system in case you need to get drivers afterwards.
