Windows Questions and Answers - How to Get Your Computer Out of Safe Mode

Melisa writes in about a Windows question:
Q.
1- How do I get my computer out of safe mode? And 2- how do I close all my open programs at one time?
Please Help!!!

A. Here are a couple of suggestions for you to try for your Safe Mode problem. First you can try forcing your computer to start normally. You can do this by going to the boot option menu for Windows by tapping F8 repeatedly while the computer is starting. From here try selecting boot normally to see if that gets it back into its regular startup. For more information on boot options check out our Safe Mode section.

Also make sure that your computer is actually in Safe Mode and not having a problem with the video driver making it look like it's in Safe Mode. It should say Safe Mode in all 4 corners of your screen. If it doesn't, then you may have a video card driver or display setting problem.

If you are getting a “Windows did not finish loading on the previous attempt” message you can try to delete the Wnbootng.sts file. This file is created each time you start Windows, and is deleted after Windows starts successfully. You can do a search of My Computer to find the file and delete it from there. Then you can try a reboot and see if it does the trick.

You can also try running the System File Checker (SFS) to see if you have any corrupted files. Go to our Troubleshooting section for more information.

For your question about closing all programs at the same time I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want a way to close them all without having to do it one at a time? As far as I know there is no way to do this without custom software.
