Mike writes in with a Windows question
Question:I am trying to open up a word program on my memory stick but it keeps saying to me (this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel.) i have tried online help and haven’t got a clue.
Answer: You said you were trying to open a Word program off your memory stick but I assume you mean a Word file/document? If you don't have Word on your computer then your computer wont know what a Word file is and wont be able to open it. If its a newer Word file like from Word 2007 which will end in .docx and you have an older version of Word on your computer then you wont be able to open it unless you install the free Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack which will convert the file so that you can open it with your older version of Word.
If the document is not from a newer version of Word then try to right click on the file and choose Open With and see if you have Word as an option to open the file with. Also make sure the file ends with .doc otherwise Windows doesn't know its a Word file. You can right click on the file and choose rename if somebody had changed the .doc to something else. If its .docx then changing it wont help and you will need the Microsoft Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. Here is more information on file associations.
