Useful Keyboard Shortcuts
Mastering a few core shortcuts allows you to keep your hands on the keyboard and your focus on the task at hand. Here are the essential universal shortcuts for any Windows environment:
- Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V: Copy and Paste.
- Ctrl + Z: Undo (The fastest way to fix an accidental deletion).
- Ctrl + F: Find. Instantly search for text within any program or document.
- Alt + Tab: Switch between open applications.
- Windows + V: Clipboard History. This allows you to see and paste from your last 25 copied items, including images and text.
- Ctrl + F {to open the find function in any program or software}
- Ctrl + Tab {similarly to shift between open tabs in a program}
- Alt + Tab {to shift between open programs in the system}
- Ctrl + S {to save the file}
- Ctrl + P {to issue the print command directly}
- Windows Key + V {Open your Clipboard History to see and select from the last 25 items you copied, including images and text}
Important Internet Tips & Tricks
- Reopen Accidentally Closed Tabs: We have all accidentally closed a tab we were still using. Instead of digging through your history, simply press Ctrl + Shift + T. This will instantly reopen the last tab you closed. You can even press it multiple times to bring back a whole series of closed tabs in the order they were shut.
Browser Efficiency:
- Ctrl + Shift + T: Reopen your last closed tab. (Press multiple times to restore a whole session).
- Alt + D: Instantly highlight the address bar to type a new URL.
- Ctrl + (+) or (-): Zoom in or out to adjust text size.
- If you hold the Ctrl key & at the same time press + or – key, you can increase the size of the text.
- Use the F5 key to refresh the Internet page & F11 to make the internet screen shift to full page screen view directly.
- Use Ctrl + B to open the your saved bookmarks in your Internet browser & Ctrl + D to save any new bookmark directly
Useful but not so famous Google tips & tricks
These some tricks, that can help you to use the Google search engine more effectively & find better results.
- In case you want to know the definition of any word, just type: define and follow it with the word, whose definition you wan to find & click search. You will get exact results of dictionaries & similar sites, providing the definition at the result page itself. (E.g. define blogging)
- site:[URL]: Search for content only on a specific website (e.g., site:onlinecomputertips.com ssd).
- filetype:[extension]: Find specific files, like filetype:pdf windows manual.
- “Exact Phrase”: Use quotation marks to find a specific string of words without variation.
- This will display all the sites that are linked with your website or blog.
- Another cool trick is that the Google search engine can be used as a full-fledged calculator. Just type 100+200 and on pressing enter you will directly get the result. In fact instead of typing in numerical you can also write down the mathematical equation in words & yet get the same result. Like ten plus ten is same as 10+10.
Modern Windows Multitasking
- Use Windows Snap Layouts (Windows 11): If you find yourself constantly resizing windows to see two apps at once, hover your mouse over a window’s Maximize button. A menu will appear with different Snap Layouts, allowing you to perfectly tile your screen in seconds without manual dragging.
